Made in Hawai’i Nei
We want to share with you about how our clothing is produced and why it’s so unique.
Almost all clothing is cut from bolts of fabric yardage, then sewn together. After years of studying the negative affects of modern clothing production, this area is where we’ve found major need for improvement. There is much waste when it comes to producing these bolts of fabric and almost always waste when the items are cut out (both woven and knit wear alike).
At Mai’åna, we’re highlighting artisanal made clothing. Our knitwear is produced from yarn. Only the exact amount of yarn needed to produce each piece is used. There is little to no waste. The fabric and the finished article of clothing is produced simultaneously.
Our clothing is produced in Peru, where knitting is a traditional practice. The clothing is knit via table as well as knitting machines. The manufacturing company is owned by Peruvians (which matters in ethics) and the clothing is made from yarn bought in the local market. There are strict regulations in Peru where the artists are paid well and treated with integrity.

Andrew and Joelle are the owners of Mai’åna (of both the brand and the neni girl it’s named after).
Joelle was born and raised here on Maui and Andrew is from the Island of Saipan and moved to Maui when he was 10. They met a few years after and have been together ever since. They have two beautiful children together. Andrew works in the community saving lives, has a couple businesses of his own and helps run this company. Joelle has been in the fashion industry for 14 years. She studied at UH and has had many jobs within the industry, including running her own custom wedding gown business (@joelleperryhawaii). As she went to school, she focused on both ethics within the industry as well as cultural continuation.
It’s been over 10 years of studying and privately living out what they believe. This company has always been the dream for them, and they have some big dreams for it.
We would love to work towards a portion of our proceeds going to two non-profits we care deeply for. One here in Hawai’i and another in Saipan. If you have any you’d like to suggest please let us know through our Contact Page
